A charity has been given £20,000 to revamp a motorcycle park after the number of riders using it increased.

The Manx Lottery Trust (MLT) funding will allow the Peveril Motorcycle Club to rebuild a motocross track in Santon.

The club, which celebrated its centenary in 2022, has about 150 members aged between four and 60.

Secretary Blanaid Higgins said there had been "an ever-increasing interest" in the sport and he hoped the improved facilities would attract new riders.

She said Knock Froy-based club aimed to "attract all abilities from beginners to world champions" and provide them "with a safe and legal area to ride their bikes and enjoy themselves".

The funding will be used to revamp the existing motocross track and add obstacles for trials, such as boulders and logs.

The club currently holds trials and motocross events every month and organises the Douglas Beach Race during the Isle of Man TT Festival every year.

It also hosted the Ladies and Girls British Trials Championship in July.

Ms Higgins said there had been "an ever-increasing interest from new riders to take part in the sport" after a number of taster sessions.

MLT chairman Stephen Turner said it was "great to see how supportive" the club has been to riders.

"We hope this funding will encourage more people who might be interested to have a go," he added.
