The roundabout will be closed over the next two weekends

A junction along a major route into the Isle of Man's capital will be shut off at the weekend for resurfacing.

The Fort North roundabout by Spring Valley in Braddan is set to close from 06:00 BST on Saturday until no later than 18:00 on Sunday.

A spokesman for the Department of Infrastructure said the junction would also shut next weekend for the resurfacing to be finished.

Diversions will be put in place for drivers travelling to Douglas.

The project is an extension of the ongoing resurfacing of the A5 New Castletown Road between the roundabout and the bottom of Richmond Hill.

Workers will pave the junction in two halves, with the first section to be completed this weekend, and the remainder the weekend after.

A diversion past the Energy from Waste Plant will remain in place for drivers coming from the south of the island to Douglas along the New Castletown Road.

The DOI spokesman said buses and emergency services would continue to be given access through the roundabout "as necessary".

The project was being undertaken at weekends to avoid the impact on the public during the working week, he added.
