Civil servants, education support staff and manual and craft workers employed by the Isle of Man government are set to receive a 6% hike in wages.

Unions Prospect and Unite agreed to the offer for the 2023-2024 year through a collective bargaining arrangement.

The agreement followed the rejection of the previous 5.5% offer by both unions earlier this year.

Members of Tynwald will also receive the uplift, which will be backdated to April.

It comes after Manx politicians' pay was linked to civil service pay grades on the recommendation of an independent panel in order to ensure it "kept pace with inflation".

All grades of staff employed by the Public Services Commission will receive the uplift, a government spokesman confirmed.

This year's award mirrors a 6% pay award agreed for the previous financial year.

But those whose employment ended before 27 October would not be entitled to any backdated pay as a result of the increase, he said.

A Unite spokeswoman said 62% of its members had agreed to the offer in a ballot over pay.

However, there was a "growing sense of frustration and anger" among workers on lower incomes that the 6% offer was being applied to staff at all points on the pay scale, she added.
