Ramsey bowling club's £22k revamp to secure future

Improved storage facilities at a crown green bowling club will help to ensure it has a "long and prosperous future", members have said.
A £22,500 rebuild and extension of the South Ramsey Bowling Club green keeper shed has been funded by the Manx Lottery Trust.
The new shed will house expert machinery used to maintain the surface.
Club secretary Alan Moore said the old facility "no longer meets the needs of a modern bowling green".
The club, which is based on Walpole Avenue, has more than 70 members who take part in competitions in 12 teams.
Evolution
Originally built in the 1980s, the existing shed was previously adequate when the club had a limited range of maintenance equipment.
However, over the years the club has bought more sophisticated machinery to improve the bowling green, which needs to be kept in a safe and secure unit.
The money is set to be used on a rebuild of the now deteriorating original shed, to allow it to store the items including additional reels, a liquid sprayer, granular spreaders and fertilisers.
Mr Moore said: "Our current green keeper shed has certainly served its purpose since it was originally built, but it no longer meets the needs of a modern bowling green.
"We have evolved over the years to coincide with the developing technology created for bowling clubs, and our facilities need to reflect this to ensure we keep the team and members happy."
