Callum Radcliffe was sentenced at Douglas Courthouse on Friday

A man who stabbed a man during a fight and burgled another man's home while on bail has been jailed for nine years and four months.

Callum Radcliffe, 33, attacked the man in March 2022 before breaking into an Onchan home armed with a knife and hammer seven months later.

Douglas Courthouse heard Radcliffe had a long history of violent offences.

Deemster Graeme Cook said his actions had been "horrific" and the burglary must have been "terrifying".

The court heard Radcliffe, of School Road in Onchan, got into a fight with a number of people on 16 March 2022 in Douglas, during which he stabbed a man twice.

Although he had not taken the weapon to the altercation himself, Deemster Cook said he used the "highly dangerous weapon" and took a "leading role" in the group brawl.

'History of violence'

While on bail for that offence, Radcliffe broke into a house in Onchan with another man armed with a knife and a hammer in the early hours of 29 October 2022, stealing a small amount of cannabis.

Radcliffe was found guilty of unlawful wounding following a trial in April last year.

He previously admitted charges of aggravated burglary, possession of cannabis and common assault.

In a statement read to the court, the victim of the stabbing attack said he had received weeks of hospital treatment following surgery for his injuries and had been left with visible scars.

The court heard he had been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, suffered with anxiety, depression and insomnia, and felt "a shell of my former self".

Meanwhile, the burglary victim said he had "nightmares daily", had become extremely anxious and had left the Isle of Man permanently as a result of the incident.

The court heard Radcliffe had a string of previous convictions including affray and causing serious bodily harm by dangerous driving, and was in breach of a suspended sentence at the time of the latest offending.

Sentencing him, Deemster Cook said: "You have a serious history of violence going back many many years".

Radcliffe was also made subject to a two-year extended licence period on his release and was handed a restraining order banning him from contacting his victims.
