An MHK in the east of the Isle of Man has been appointed political member for the enterprise department, with responsibility for motorsport.

Garff member Daphne Caine will also oversee the Visit Isle of Man agency.

She already holds several government posts, including chair of the Climate Change Transformation Board.

She said her new responsibilities "lead on a wide portfolio of work to promote the Isle of Man to an international audience".

Work in the two divisions focuses on attracting visitors "to experience all the island has to offer, from nature and wildlife to the world-renowned TT Races".

Both teams work on "creating a more sustainable future" with a focus on the "island's biosphere status", she added.

It is a return to tourism for Ms Caine, who worked for the former Department of Tourism and Leisure from 1996 to 2005.

Minister for the Department for Enterprise (DFE) Tim Johnston said: "Daphne's interest in the island's heritage and her involvement with the heritage railways will be particularly valuable to the Visit Agency as they digest the recent Systra report and look to support the recommendations to further enhance the visitor experience."

Ms Caine is also a member of the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee and vice chair of the Public Accounts Committee.
