An activity centre on the Isle of Man is set to reopen after a "major revamp", the education minister has said.

The facility, formally known as Ardwhallan, closed when the operator handed back his contract in 2021.

The rebranded Outdoor Learning Centre in West Baldwin will reopen fully in the spring after trials with teachers and students.

Minister Julie Edge said the hub would boost young people's wellbeing.

She said the centre, which offers paddle-boarding, orienteering and a new purpose-built adventure course, had "undergone a remarkable transformation", which had "created a unique learning environment".

The department said, before the centre was opened formally, teachers have been offered free training days to see the facilities and learn how they could be used to help young people.

Students from University College Isle of Man would also spend time at the centre in coming weeks, it said.

Ms Edge said it was "a fantastic addition to the island" and would support the government's ambition to "deliver lifelong learning opportunities for all and develop the curriculum".

The centre was set to be "a place for young people to connect with the great outdoors, build resilience and boost wellbeing", she added.
