Jersey's central market will continue to have a post office facility after Jersey property holdings granted the lease to another operator.

Hub Europe will run the current post office that will be vacant from the end of October.

There were six formal proposals from people hoping to take over the space left vacant after Jersey Post decided not to renew its lease.

Hub Europe's lease for the shop will run until 2013.

Deputy John Le Fondre, assistant minister for treasury and resources, said the decision to give Hub Europe the licence would mean a postal service could continue in the market.

Hub Europe and Citipost were granted licences by the Jersey Competition and Regulatory Authority on Wednesday to provide postal services in Jersey.

They will be able to provide postal services to the business sector delivering large packets from late 2010 and large letters from January 2012.
