Crowds turn out in Jersey to pay tribute to war dead

The service at the cenotaph was organised by the Jersey branch of the Royal British Legion

Crowds of people gathered at St Helier Cenotaph earlier to pay their respects to military personnel killed in war.

The service, which marked Remembrance Sunday, was organised by the Jersey branch of the Royal British Legion.

The Jersey Field Squadron and the Band of the Island of Jersey opened the proceedings by marching from Cyril Le Marquand House towards The Parade.

There was also a procession of clergy, crown officers, jurats and uniformed officers from the Town Hall.

A two-minute silence at 1100 GMT was followed by a saluting gun and a wreath laying ceremony.

Road closures and parking restrictions were in place in parts of St Helier.
