Jersey ratifies tax agreement with China

Jersey has ratified a tax agreement enabling it to share information with China.

The tax information exchange agreement is one of 19 signed by Jersey.

Six officials from the People's Republic of China went to the island to sign the agreement, which has now been ratified by the States.

Chief Minister, Senator Terry Le Sueur, said it was a very significant step in strengthening political and business relationships with the East.

The States said the agreement also demonstrated Jersey's willingness to be part of global ideas designed to strengthen the financial services system and combat tax evasion.

The agreements have been signed since February 2002 when Jersey agreed to support the OECD's tax initiative on transparency.
