Biggest prize for Channel Islands Christmas lottery

The Associations of Jersey and Guernsey Charities benefit from the draw

The Channel Islands Christmas lottery draw will take place later with a record jackpot of £750,000.

The Associations of Jersey and Guernsey Charities benefit from the profits.

Organisers of the draw said they were pleased that even in the current economic climate the charity event was still being supported.

Constable Len Norman, Jersey's assistant minister for economic development, said changes were planned for the 2011 draw.

Constable Norman, who has responsibility for the lottery, said: "We are looking at next year for the Christmas lottery perhaps having a limitless number of tickets so the prize can go even higher.

"We also have a number of other ideas to revitalise it which I hope we will be able to announce early next year."

Silkworth Lodge, a charity which provides help to those who are suffering with alcohol or drug addiction in Jersey, is one organisation that has benefited from the draw.

The jackpot in 2009 was £651,000.
