Jersey's listed building process will be simplified
- Published
The way historic buildings are graded in Jersey is to be made more simple.
All sites of special interest (SSI) and buildings of local interest (BLI) will be listed under one grade from the end of 2010.
They will become listed buildings or places from the 31 December 2010.
The change will have no immediate effect on planning controls for historic buildings but will involve a comprehensive survey of buildings.
The Jersey Heritage Trust will manage the survey over the next couple of years.
Planning minister Senator Freddie Cohen said the current system was confusing and did not best protect the island's listed buildings.
