Shelters could increase the number of bus users

It is hoped providing more bus shelters could encourage people to use public transport in Jersey.

David St George, from Transport and Technical Services (TTS), said they want to double the number of people using buses and installing bus shelters helps that.

He said the Island Plan states any new development of more than 20 homes should include a nearby bus shelter.

And this also ties in with TTS's sustainable transport policy.

The policy aims to improve the bus services around the island.

Mr St George said a bus shelter costs about £6,000 to build.

Six new shelters have been installed recently, in Gorey, St Clement's coast road, Queens Road, Mont Felard and two in St Peter's Valley.

Four of those were funded by property developers.
