Criticism of Jersey lifeguard change

The RNLI will take over the Jersey lifeguard service from this summer
A Jersey politician does not think that changing the lifeguard service in the island is the right decision.
From summer 2011 the lifeguard service in Jersey will be run by the RNLI, saving the States of Jersey about £100,000 per year.
St Helier Deputy Paul Le Claire is not convinced about the change.
He said: "As good as the RNLI is I don't believe they are going to be able to match the experience the Australian lifeguards bring to the job."
Deputy Le Claire said: "Unfortunately, in my view this has been done to save money."
The RNLI will replace the existing service by lifeguards who have provided help for swimmers for the past 50 years.
But existing staff are expected to keep their jobs with the new organisation.
