National Trust urges Jersey islanders to go green

The National Trust for Jersey want people to install eco-friendly lightbulbs

The National Trust for Jersey is hoping islanders will "go green" in February.

As part of their 75th birthday celebrations, the trust are promoting eco-friendly ways of living.

Throughout February they have been fitting eco lightbulbs in many of their properties.

In March they will be encouraging people to dry their clothes on a washing line instead of in the tumble dryer.

Geraldine Hunt from the trust said there were benefits to going green.

She said: "The real idea was to make things simple, we don't want to say to everyone you have to put solar panels on, because it frightens people.

"We have done some cost savings ourselves, we've done some calculations and there are a lot of savings to be made.

"It is just the little things that we feel, if we do it together as an island we are helping the planet and we are helping Jersey."

The National Trust for Jersey launched its year long campaign in January by painting the 'white house' in St Ouen green.
