'Spinathon' raises £14,000 for Jersey Hospice care

A charity spinning event has raised £14,000 for Jersey Hospice care.

The Jay Morris annual spinathon on Saturday involved cycling for one hour on a stationary bike at Club Carrefour in St Lawrence.

This year's event attracted 99 people - more than ever before.

The event has been running for nine years and aimed to raise awareness of cancer, in memory of the cyclist Jay Morris who died of the illness in 2003.

Mr Morris was a founder member of the Velo Sport Jersey cycling club.

He and his family set up the spinathon to raise awareness of cancer - but Mr Morris died a few weeks before the first event took place.

His father Alan Morris said he was pleased with the money raised this year.

He added he was always grateful for the consistent generosity of islanders.
