Jersey Telecom has printed 8,000 fewer telephone directories this year, claiming more people are using the online directory.

Tim Ringsdore from Jersey Telecom said the website gets more than 20,000 searches a month.

The company has begun distributing the 82,000 phonebooks to homes and businesses around the island.

Mr Ringsdore said new technology is changing the way islanders access services such as directories.

A recycling campaign will run for a 14th year, with collection points for old 2010 directories at schools, supermarkets and parish halls around the island.
