Over £4,000 is raised for French fisherman's family

People in Jersey have raised more than £4,000 for the family of the French fisherman who died in a ferry crash.

Philippe Lesaulnier, 42, was fishing when his boat, Les Marquises, collided with the Condor Vitesse.

Jersey's fishing community has been collecting money for his widow and two children at the Fish Market and Harbour, raising £4,172.

A bank account has been opened for people to make donations.

The collection was started by the Fresh Fish Company and has been taken up by Jersey's fishing community.

Last Monday's crash was being investigated by French authorities as it happened in French waters.

On Friday, an inquest was opened and adjourned to allow Mr Lesaulnier's body to be released to his family and taken back to France.

The inquest heard that Mr Lesaulnier's death was inevitable and quick.

Det Insp Chris Beechy, who was investigating the death, told the inquest there was nothing anyone could have done to save him.
