The head of maths at a Jersey secondary school has died after a suspected heart attack.

Jim Holland, 40, collapsed at Grainville school on Wednesday and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. He was not in class when he collapsed.

Mr Holland had a pre-existing heart condition and died in hospital.

All of the school's pupils and staff have been told about Mr Holland's death, and are receiving support from a team of counsellors.

He joined the school in September 2008 and was also a year seven form teacher.

Head teacher John McGuinness said: "This is shocking news and our thoughts and prayers are with Jim's family and friends at this difficult time.

"Jim was a fantastic member of staff and will be dearly missed by all that knew him."
