Jersey pupils give souvenirs to Pope

Pupils from Beaulieu school in Jersey met the pope on Friday and gave him souvenirs of the island.

The two girls from the Jersey-based convent school passed on the best wishes of the island.

Beatrice Herman and Franchesca Montecelli said it was an experience they would remember for the rest of their lives.

The visit was part of a trip to Rome to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the St Helier secondary school.

A group of 50 students and staff from the school travelled to Rome for the anniversary visit.

The girls presented the Pope with a traditional Jersey baptismal bowl with the Beaulieu crest on and a book of paintings of Jersey by past pupils of the school.

Miss Montecelli told BBC News: "We said that our School Beaulieu brought its love and greetings from our island Jersey and he said 'God bless you and thank you'."

Miss Herman said: "It was the most amazing experience and a real honour to represent our school and the island. It is something we will always remember for the rest of our lives."
