Mr Goad said online searches were later reflected in the number of trips booked

Four times as many people searched online for holidays to Jersey than Guernsey in January, an internet search list suggests.

Jersey was 12th in Google's top 50 holiday destinations by people searching from the UK.

Robin Goad, internet research director from Experian Hitwise, said searches were a good indicator of how many people will actually book a holiday.

He said Jersey was particularly popular for people living in southern England.

"There were two sub groups of popularity, active retirement which is people who have paid off their mortgage and are at that nice stage in their life when they have time to take a lot of holidays, and also the younger families who maybe have one, two, three children, who are looking for a beach resort relatively nearby," he said.

Mr Goad is in Jersey to share his experience with members of the tourism industry as part of Jersey Tourism's speakers series.

The talk is at the Pomme D'or Hotel in St Helier from 1800 BST.
