The fast food restaurant McDonald's was the only company that has come forward to sponsor recycling bins in St Helier.

Constable Simon Crowcroft said the three bins were in the town centre and he hoped there would be more in future.

The three rectangular bins separate normal litter from cans and tins and also newspapers and magazines.

Constable Crowcroft said McDonald's had helped with litter campaigns in the past and worked with Keep Britain Tidy in the UK.

He said many local companies were approached to sponsor the bins and they were the only firm that agreed.

McDonald's has provided £1,000 to sponsor the bins throughout 2011 and Constable Crowcroft is hoping more local businesses will get involved.
