Jersey building industry wants home plan change

Jersey's building industry wants more work to be done on a plan for providing affordable homes in the island.

The Jersey Construction Council has described part of the Island Plan as "unworkable" and said it would impact badly on the construction industry.

Deputy Sean Power wants part of a blueprint for the use of land in the island to be rewritten.

The St Brelade deputy wants a provision for affordable housing removed from the Island Plan.

The construction council said it supported Deputy Power's plan and wanted more work to be done on providing affordable housing.

Deputy Power said: "At the moment, because of a lack of mortgage finance, the demand has temporarily stopped.

"But when mortgage finance becomes available there will be no supply of first time buyer or affordable housing in the island."
