Jersey cancer charity gets Queen's award

Hundreds of groups have been given the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

A group providing support for people with prostate cancer in Jersey has been given an award by the Queen.

The Macmillan Jersey Prostate Cancer Support Group won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

The award is the equivalent of an MBE for groups of volunteers working in local communities.

In a statement the group said: "This award celebrates the hard work of all our members in making this area of illness less of a taboo subject."

More than 980 groups around the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man have received the award since it was created to mark the Golden Jubilee in 2002.
