New home for Jersey's commercial bulky waste

Jersey companies wanting to dispose of bulky waste can use a new facility at La Collette from Tuesday.

Transport and Technical Services is opening a facility for large items of burnable waste such as furniture and mattresses which cannot be recycled.

They can be broken down, shredded and then disposed of in the new Energy from Waste plant.

But it only affects commercial operators, the public should still take bulky waste to Bellozanne.

The facility was built as part of the Energy from Waste project at La Collette to free up space at Bellozanne and allow the recycling centre to expand.

Constable Mike Jackson, Transport and Technical Services minister, said: "This is another important milestone for Jersey in terms of waste management, which will centralise commercial operations and reduce the logistical cost of transporting wastes between Bellozanne and La Collette."
