Channel Island Co-op cuts meat factory operation

The Channel Islands Co-operative Society is closing its meat factory operations in Jersey and Guernsey.
The Co-op said that feedback showed customers preferred meat that was cut in the UK.
There are eight people working in the meat factory in Jersey and six in Guernsey.
Colin Macleod, chief executive of the Channel Island Co-op said people working in the meat factory would be offered other opportunities.
He said: "We are determined to make absolutely nobody redundant and that has been clear since the outset of this trial.
"We are continuing to engage with those people affected and a few people will be given the opportunity to transfer to a new meat server counter at our Grande Marche in St Peter.
"The rest, we are very confident, will be found positions within the organisation and given the opportunity to retrain for those positions."
Mr Macleod said it would not save the society any money as the change was "cost neutral", he said it was about offering a wider supply of meat products.
