Policy issued for Jersey sex offenders

The States will be keeping tabs on sex offenders under a new policy to protect the public and victims.

The Jersey Multi Agency Public Protection Arrangements have been issued to help reduce re-offending.

Registered sex offenders, violent criminals sentenced to a year or more in prison and potential offenders will all be tracked by the new system.

It aims to help the departments involved in managing sex offenders to work together.

Those signed up to it have to come up with risk management plans to ensure sex and violent offenders do not pose a risk to the public.

These include the police, the housing and education departments, the Housing Trust, probation staff and parish constables.

It might involve sharing information with schools or church groups or with offenders' new partners.
