Families of the six people stabbed to death in Jersey said they were "grateful and extremely touched" by the support from the community.

Det Supt Stewart Gull, who is leading the inquiry, also confirmed the identity of four of the six victims.

Izabela Rzeszowska, 30, her two children Kinga Rzeszowska, 5, and Kacper Rzeszowski, 2, and her 56-year-old father Marek Garstka were killed.

Their post-mortem examinations showed that they died from stab wounds.

Mr Gull said the names of the other two victims would be confirmed on Saturday.

They have been named locally as Marta de la Haye and her young daughter Julia.

The two families have been speaking via their family liaison officers.

They have expressed their "sincerest thanks for the flowers, soft toys and candles" that have been left at the scene of the crime in Victoria Crescent.

Jersey Police said: "A small number of the tributes have been taken by the families for placement at a more personal and private location, as they continue to grieve at the loss of their loved ones."

A 30-year-old man, named locally as Izabela's husband Damian Rzeszowski, has been arrested in connection with the stabbings.

The police said he remained in hospital under police guard, where he is continuing to receive treatment for injuries sustained in the incident. He is in a stable condition.

Jersey Police said the murder investigation continues with more than 150 lines of inquiry completed, and nearly 100 witness statements taken.

Det Supt Stewart Gull said: "The response and support of the people of Jersey, standing side by side to show their respect for the victims of this tragic incident has been remarkable and the two families have talked to us of the strength and comfort it has given them.

"We have had the same kind of support from the local community with our investigation and that has been of significant assistance to us."
