Jersey's beach lifeguards have finished their last patrols of the season.

An RNLI spokesman said plenty of islanders had been taking advantage of the unusually warm weather at the weekend with a visit to the beach.

They did their final patrols on St Ouen, St Brelade and Plemont beaches on Sunday.

Now they are off duty they are urging swimmers to take extra care to be aware of the dangers of the sea and the tides.

Ed Stevens, RNLI lifeguard supervisor, said: "The charity's volunteer RNLI lifeboat crews at St Catherine and St Helier remain on call 24 hours a day and ready to respond to anyone in difficulty around Jersey's coast.

He added: "We'd recommend that people take note of the safety signage at the entrance to the beach, always go with a friend or tell someone on the shore where they are going and be aware of the conditions and their own capabilities in the water.

"Walkers should also find out the local tide times."
