New Honda motorbikes for States of Jersey Police

Officers already trained as police motorcyclists could be on Jersey's roads next month

Police motorcycles are to be reintroduced in Jersey.

The States of Jersey Police unveiled their new Honda Deauvilles at the island's emergency services open day.

Training for the riders will begin in January and the plan is to have two motorbike riders attached to each uniform shift.

Police bikes were previously used in Jersey, but they were scrapped in 2004 to save money.

Faster response

The police said the decision to reintroduce them was made for "a number of reasons".

The force said the bikes had several operational advantages, which included being able to respond faster to emergencies and crimes.

The bikes would also represent a "significant deterrent" to people flouting road traffic laws.

Officers previously qualified as police motorcyclists can begin using the bikes as early as November.
