Jersey's open vote for chief minister law passed

People in Jersey will be able to know which politicians have voted for Jersey's next chief minister.

On Thursday, the States of Jersey passed an official change in regulations which will end the secret vote for chief minister.

It will affect the vote for the position, on Monday 14 November, after the new States members are sworn in.

Deputy Trevor Pitman said he believed it was a move to more political transparency in Jersey.

He said: "Openness I believe is something we talk an awful lot about in government, we pledge our commitment and accountability for it all the time, and I think this was a great step forward, I certainly felt that."
