Jersey's former chief minister Terry Le Sueur has been appointed OBE for his political services to the island.

He is one of five islanders in Jersey who have been recognised in the New Year Honours list.

Former Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell OBE has been appointed CBE for his services to young people as president of Jersey-based UK Youth.

Nigel Truscott has been involved with St John Ambulance for 43 years

Another Jersey resident, Annette Langley, has been appointed MBE for services to Family Nursing and Home Care and the nursing profession.

Nigel Truscott, the Commander of St John Ambulance in Jersey, has also been appointed MBE for his voluntary service to the charity.

He has been involved with the St John Ambulance for 43 years, since he joined as a cadet in 1969.

Mr Truscott said: "I was overjoyed and extremely honoured of course, the letter came through the post about six weeks ago and not having to tell anybody was quite difficult."

The chief of staff at Government House, Lieutenant Colonel Charles Woodrow, has been made a Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order for services to the Crown.
