Jersey gets out-of-hours fisheries team to advise anglers

Two fisheries officers have been appointed to do out-of-hours visits to popular fishing spots in Jersey

Fisheries officers will talk to anglers about conservation and regulations when they visit popular fishing areas in Jersey.

Extra staff are being appointed to work outside normal office hours.

The Environment department said while most leisure fishermen stick to the rules to conserve fish stocks, there was still a need for fisheries officers to visit popular areas.

They would enforce the regulations and carry out educational activities.

Most people who fish for pleasure do so at the weekend and out of office hours which requires staff to be available then.

The economic development minister has approved the appointment of two fisheries officers, Henry Glynn and Hayley Gueno, to do the out-of-hours visits.
