Jersey States delays debate into government reform

The States of Jersey has decided to delay a debate on government reform as the group responsible needs more time.

Members were due to be asked about restrictions during election periods, government system reform and open ballots for ministerial elections.

The Privileges and Procedures Committee said it was looking at these issues as part of a wider review.

It said it would be setting up a sub-committee to look at all the issues over the next few months.

Deputy Trevor Pitman, who wanted a debate on whether ministers and committee chairmen should be elected through open ballots, said he would keep trying.
