Connex 'disappointed' at loss of bus contract

The head of the company that runs Jersey's bus service said he did not understand what it did wrong to lose the operator contract.

Connex had been running buses in the island since 2002 and had its contract renewed for three years in 2008.

The transport department has now announced UK not-for-profit company CT Plus as the preferred bidder.

Eric Le Roux, from Connex, said his staff were surprised and disappointed.

He said: "It is not only my reaction, it is the reaction of the whole company.

"All the employees who are disappointed that, despite all the efforts that we have put in during the last nine years, the States decided to rule out the existing operator."

Transport Minister Deputy Kevin Lewis said CT Plus had the best bid.
