Jersey summer jobs 'should go to unemployed islanders'

Jersey businesses have been encouraged by the States to fill more than 200 jobs with unemployed people living on the island.

The States of Jersey has said the jobs are available over the summer season and are in the hospitality industry.

In December, figures from the States Statistics Unit showed there were 1,540 people registered as actively seeking work.

Vacancies include housekeeping, reception and bar work.

Economic Development Minister, Senator Alan Maclean, said the States had asked businesses to find their workers from the "local market rather than seeking applications from outside the island".
