Jersey's Highlands college principal is to retire

The principal of Highland's College in Jersey has announced he will retire in August after 15 years' service.

In the 15 years Professor Ed Sallis has been in charge, the number of students at the college has doubled.

The 63-year-old said his improving the college's reputation was his greatest achievement.

He said he was pleased standards at the college had raised while it had continued to give opportunities to islanders of all abilities.

Mr Sallis, who was made an OBE for his work in education, said it was time to find new challenges and to spend more time with his wife.
