Prince's Trust gets £2m to help young Jersey jobless

A youth charity has been given £2m to help young unemployed people in Jersey get back to work.

The Prince's Trust, which works with people aged 13 to 30, received the funding from local organisations.

Half the money came from Jersey based Amazon Trust with the rest coming from the States of Jersey and private equity firm CVC.

The charity will spend the money over the next seven years to help about 1,400 disadvantaged young people.

The Amazon Trust supports young people in Jersey with funding from the island's finance sector.

The Prince's Trust said the first activity to receive funding will be a 12-week personal development course.

It said the course, which is run in partnership with the Jersey Youth Service, "helps young people gain the skills and confidence they need to get a job".

The trust says it will use the money to offer more vocational training courses and courses designed to boost confidence and self-esteem.
