Rebecca Houze beat 13 other women to win the Miss Jersey Battle of Flowers crown

The new Miss Jersey Battle of Flowers, Rebecca Houze, beat her best friend to the crown.

The 19-year-old student from St Saviour will represent Jersey in the annual summer parade, the Jersey Battle of Flowers, on 9 August.

She beat 13 other women to the title, including her best friend.

The Jersey Battle of Flowers takes place every year and islanders build floats and decorate them with either real or paper flowers.

It attracts about 30,000 spectators and was first held in 1902 as a celebration for the coronation of Edward VII.

For the next year, Miss Houze will be expected to carry out public engagements, both on and off the island.

Miss Houze is in her second year of an agriculture degree at a Shropshire college.

She said: "Working with the Battle for over 10 years on Grouville Juniors, Seniors and then most recently with the Young Farmers, it's the cherry on top of the cake really, it's a real honour."
