A launderette in First Tower, St Helier, was left badly damaged after a fire on Tuesday.
No-one was in the building at the time, but people in nearby flats had to leave their homes.
The inner road between Nigel Mansell's garage and the pet cemetery was closed for more than two hours while emergency services worked.
Station commander Mark Le Cornu said it would take a long time to find out what happened.
