Work and immigration 'a priority' says chief minister

Senator Gorst said the island had a bright future

Getting people back to work and controlling migration are priorities for Jersey over the next three years, according to the chief minister.

The States approved the seven main aims set out by Senator Ian Gorst's council of ministers in the chamber on Tuesday.

He also said he wanted to provide homes, promote family values and improve healthcare.

Some politicians were sceptical, saying a few of these could be achieved without performance targets.

Senator Gorst told the States: "I believe we can preserve and protect the past we value while keeping pace with a changing world.

"Jersey has a secure niche in the world and a bright future. Let us make sure we take every opportunity with confidence."

The strategic plan was approved by 41 votes to four with one abstention.
