Charles and Camilla visit to Jersey: Trip details released

The couple's visit is part of the Diamond Jubilee tour being carried out by members of the Royal Family

Details of the visit of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to Jersey on 18 July have been released.

Among the planned events for the Diamond Jubilee visit is a special meeting of the States in Royal Square.

Bailiff Sir Michael Birt will lead the government in reaffirming the island's loyalty to the English Crown.

A commemorative granite feature and a specially commissioned art work of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant will be unveiled in the square.

Sir Michael said: "This visit affords us the opportunity to renew our loyalty and affection to the Crown, which we have held for many hundreds of years.

"I hope as many members of the community as possible will turn out to extend a traditional warm Jersey welcome to our royal visitors."

The royal couple will also tour the redevelopment work at Grainville School, meet stallholders at the Central Market and view the restoration work being undertaken on the Town Church in St Helier.

Visits to the National Trust for Jersey property in New Street and the Royal Jersey Agricultural and Horticultural Society Headquarters, in Trinity, have also been announced.

Prince Charles last visited the island in 2005, a year before his marriage to the duchess.
