Jersey assistant magistrate still paid after guilty verdict

A Jersey assistant magistrate found guilty of fraud is still being paid despite not working for four years.

Ian Christmas was found guilty in the Royal Court of defrauding a local investor of £100,000 in July.

Jersey's Bailiff Chambers has appointed a UK judge, Sir Stanley Burnton, to lead a disciplinary investigation into Christmas' conduct.

Christmas has appealed against his conviction but the disciplinary inquiry will go ahead regardless.

The Bailiff's Chambers says while the assistant magistrate still holds his office he has to be paid.

An assistant magistrate in Jersey earns between £106,945 and £111,945 per year.
