Three RHS Britain in Bloom awards for Jersey

Jersey has won three awards in the 2012 Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom competition.

St Helier received two of the accolades - a silver gilt award in the large town category as well as the sustainable landscape award.

Meanwhile, Grouville picked up a silver gilt prize in the "coastal up to 12k" category, which saw Channel Island Herm win the gold award.

The annual awards ceremony was held at Beau Sejour leisure centre in Guernsey.

Bernard Rebours, of Grouville, said reaching the final of the competition came as a result of people in the community who had made the parish a cleaner place to live.

He said residents had made the parish more beautiful.

The sustainable landscaping accolade given to St Helier was on account of the town's New Town Park development.

New Town Park includes recycling and water collection facilities, as well as walkways and cycleways.
