JT phases out mobile top-up cards for Channel Islands

Customers of Jersey telecoms company JT will no longer be able to purchase top-up cards for their mobile phones.
The company announced it would phase out the cards in favour of online payments and electronic payment terminals in shops.
The move will affect customers across the Channel Islands, but JT will honour any existing unexpired top-up cards already purchased.
Dominic Vye of JT said the change had come as a result of new technology.
Mr Vye, the company's head of commercial development, said: "Top-up cards were... successful but technology has moved on."
He added: "There is a cost saving and environmental benefit in replacing cards with the e-vouchers."
The last of JT's top-up vouchers will be delivered to retailers in the islands during January.
