Jersey nurses will hold a protest march in February

Nurses and midwives in Jersey will hold a protest march on 23 February.

The rally has been organised by the RCN, RCM and JNA nursing and midwifery unions, to allow workers to demonstrate after rejecting a 3% pay rise.

The States Employment Board (SEB) offered the rise to staff members, who had asked for a rise putting them on a par with other health workers.

Kenny McNeil, chairman of the nurses and midwives joint executive, said he hoped the rally would send a message.

He said: "We hope as many nurses, midwives and HCAs as possible will join us on the rally so that we can send a clear message to the SEB that we will not let this matter go."

Workers have raised concerns that the current pay situation will see the island struggle to retain and recruit nurses in the future.

A spokesman for the States of Jersey said it was disappointed its latest pay offer had been rejected.
