Parking charges rise by 2p a unit in Jersey

The cost of parking in Jersey has risen by 2p to 73p for a single unit paycard.

Jersey's Transport Minister, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said it was unfortunate but necessary and the increase of 3.1% was in line with inflation.

He said the monthly season parking tickets have also increased by £3.60 to £119.69.

Deputy Lewis said: "We have six multi-storey car parks in St Helier and 81 car parks around the island and they have to be maintained."

He said Jersey parking charges still remained some of the least expensive in the British Isles.

"We need a car park trading fund so in the future as any car park needs replacing we have the funds there for us," he added.
