On Tuesday more than 5.5 inches (14cm) of snow fell in Jersey, the highest March snowfall in the island since 1962 according to weather forecasters.

Many islanders were left stranded at home, including Rui Pereira who was not able to get to work.

Blizzards meant the snow was much deeper, with some areas seeing drifts metres deep.

Parish officials were warning people that animals were roaming around on parish roads.

Jersey Fire service had to close the road next to the town market so they could remove heavy build ups of snow from the roof.

Parish of St Helier workers were out clearing snow and gritting paths to make it safer for pedestrians.

Some teenagers, including Ricardo, decided to make the most of the snow by sledging down King Street in St Helier.
