Work on a £2.9m refurbishment of an adult mental health unit in Jersey is due to start in May after the appointment of a building company.

The 34-bed Clinique Pinel, in St Saviour, provides treatment and respite for people aged over 65 with dementia, depression, anxiety and psychosis.

Reports have described the facilities as outdated and needing significant work to meet current standards.

Patients will be moved to other sites during the 12-month project.

The upgrade includes refurbishing the interior and improving standards of infection control and fire prevention.
