A dolphin stranded in a bay in Jersey since Tuesday has been destroyed after beaching itself.

The mammal was found on Sunday on the beach at St Aubin's Bay by some children, who cradled the young male animal until experts arrived.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue had been monitoring the Risso's dolphin, a species not native to Jersey waters.

A spokesperson said the dolphin was malnourished and likely to have been pushed out of a group.
